For The Good of All
Started in 2013 by Curt and Darcy Riess and with the initial support of General Mills as a customer, Mel-O Africa supports subsistence farmers through the growth of the apiculture industry and direct buying partnerships. In 2018, Tim Harder who has been involved with Mel-O Africa since its inception and joined by his wife Pauline, made the commitment to maintain an in-country presence to manage Mel-O Africa. Grounded in what we do is the vision to do good in the world by investing in local beekeepers and turning poverty into prosperity by training subsistence farmers to be beekeepers. We use an organic certification process to harvest fresh, high-quality, honey exported to purchasing partners around the globe.
Exporting expertiseWe’ve relied on our extensive food industry and apiculture background and supported by long-standing partnerships to collect and ship commercial volumes of delicious certified organic Sierra Leone honey since 2013. In doing so, we've been fortunate to build a network of over 5,000 local subsistence farmers.
